Treatment Options

Home Sleep Study

We provide a Sleep Study that can be done in the convenience of your own home. The device
is worn for two nights and the data collected is forwarded to a Sleep Physician and interpreted.
Depending on your diagnosis a treatment will be recommended.

If you have mild to moderate sleep apnea an oral appliance is an excellent treatment
choice for most patients.. For severe sleep apnea we recommend the “gold standard” a CPAP. If you are unable to wear or cannot tolerate a CPCP an oral appliance may be an option.

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy

Orofacial Myofunctional therapy treats the disorders of the face and mouth.

Most Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders originate with insufficient nasal breathing or with oral breathing. OMDs may affect directly or indirectly breastfeeding, facial skeletal growth and development, chewing, swallowing, speech, occlusion, and more. Oral myofunctional therapy helps to correct issues that lead to sleep disordered breathing.

CPAP

CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Air Pressure and it works by forcing air into a nasal mask that is strapped to the head.

The constant pressure prevents the airway from collapsing and preventing sleep apnea. It is considered the gold standard for treatment but for many it is difficult to tolerate and is often not used after 6 months. If you have difficulty with your CPAP every night there are alternatives. It is very important that you do not leave obstructive sleep apnea untreated. Please contact us to see if you are a candidate for alternative treatment.

Healthy Start

Healthy start is a program specially designed for children with sleep disordered breathing.

Healthy sleep is essential for growth and development, both physically and mentally. Some of the symptoms of sleep disordered breathing in children can be in the form of, nightmares, teeth grinding, difficulty in school, ADD/ADHD, mouth breathing, daytime drowsiness, snoring, depression, defiance, Bed wetting, and more. Early intervention can vastly improve these symptoms. An added bonus is that crooked teeth and certain malocclusions can corrected and may prevent the need for braces. For more information please contact us or go to the website, thehealthystart.com.

Surgery

There are surgical options for removing excess tissue that may impair the airway. We will
discuss those if it applies to you.

Oral Appliance Therapy

We create custom fabricated oral appliances that gently move your lower jaw forward and open your airway allowing you to breathe freely while sleeping.

What are my options for Sleep Apnea treatment?

While Obstructive sleep apnea has common symptoms, the treatment modality is dependent on a myriad of variables. The severity of your sleep apnea, jaw structure and alignment, your dental condition all contribute to determining which is the optimal treatment for you.
